Description
The purpose of this acquisition is to provide the NIH Mouse Imaging Facility (MIF) with hardware and software extended warranty maintenance support for its InAlyzer DEXA Scanner. This equipment uses Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) to measure bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition (BMC, FAT, LEAN) of subjects for ongoing biomedical research studies of human conditions. This system is a highthroughput device. With its speed and low radiation dose it allows longitudinal surveys of subjects; therefore, it can screen subjects to determine which subjects are best suited for higher resolution, more time consumptive imaging modalities like microCT that has a significantly longer acquisition data processing times. Together with our current scanners, DEXA use will increase the amount of imaging information available to researchers, while also saving time and allowing focused research on a targeted subset of subjects. This machine is used for ongoing approved research studies that began prior to January 20, 2025. It is vital that this machine is properly maintained at the highest gold standards for accurate research data acquisition. This maintenance is necessary to support ongoing research studies so that this work can continue, and investigators do not lose investment in these ongoing studies. The DEXA saves researchers time and money because the subjects can be studied longitudinally.
