Description
On July 21, 2026 a localized washout of Poverty Hollow Road occurred during a heavy rainfall event, resulting in a section of the edge/underside of the roadway washing down a vertical slope. The washout location is south of Bridge 05322, which is located just south of the intersection of Poverty Hollow Road with Meeker Hill and Goodridge Roads. At the bridge, the Aspetuck River crosses beneath the road and drops into a gorge. As a result of the damage to the roadway, the Town has reduced traffic to an alternating one-way pattern. The Town of Redding is soliciting proposals from firms qualified to perform all engineering design, permitting, right of way, survey and construction administration services required to stabilize and reconstruct the undermined section of Poverty Hollow Road and restore two-lane traffic. Poverty Hollow Road is a designated scenic road and the scenic road designation must be considered as repairs are planned.
