Description

The project consists on Bicycle Boulevard along approximately 4.5 miles of Blacklidge Drive between Oracle Road (State Route 77) and Columbus Boulevard in the City of Tucson, Pima County Arizona. A bicycle boulevard is a residential street designed to prioritize bicycling by slowing traffic and assisting bicyclists and pedestrians in crossing busier streets. The project will incorporate signalized pedestrian hybrid beacons (also referred to as High-Intensity Activated CrossWalKs [HAWK]) which would allow for safer bicycle and pedestrian crossing without major impacts to traffic flow. HAWK signals operate in a yellow-red-flashing red sequence to alert motorists that bicyclists or pedestrians need to cross the road.
