Capabilities

At ZILA BioWorks, we take plants and convert them into industrial bioplastics, specifically bio-epoxy resins. The technology is an innovative bio-epoxy resin based on the fatty acids (FA) of hempseed oil for use in composites, coatings, and adhesives. Unlike the conventional approach of creating epoxy resins that builds the monomers on the structure of triglyceride of oil, the ZILA Works’ approach is to dismantle (by hydrolysis) the triglyceride structure of hemp oil and rebuild new monomers with structures more appropriate for thermosets. We have identified clear steps to a 60% reduction in carbon footprint compared to petroleum-based epoxies. ZILA is more than a bio-epoxy manufacturer; we are a custom formulator, providing the highest value-added step in the epoxy supply chain so we can sell our bio-resin system to product manufacturers as a drop-in solution.
