After years working for larger firms, Charles M. Smith founded the C.M. Smith Agency from his home in 1974. More than twenty years later, long-time employees John O’Connell and Baxter Maffett purchased the small Glastonbury-based company with intentions of becoming Connecticut’s insurance marketplace leader. To better position the company, the Agency relocated to Hartford in 2014 and now employs more than 35 dedicated professionals. The agency specializes in advising large employers and is licensed in all 50 states.
