Baldwin Aerospace operates an arc jet facility for high temperature material testing. This 33 kW arc jet facility is designed specifically to meet the growing aerospace demand for cost-effective, real-world testing. At the core of our mission is a commitment to advancing accessible, high-impact research in thermal protection system (TPS) materials and plasma science. The RDMS X-Jet Facility represents a new generation of compact, efficient, and affordable arc jet testing systems. Through detailed design, simulation, and analysis, it has demonstrated strong potential as a highly reliable platform for high-enthalpy plasma research and rigorous TPS material evaluation. Capable of achieving sustained flow conditions approaching Mach 4, alongside high enthalpies and heat fluxes rivaling what the Space Shuttle would encounter during atmospheric entry, the RDMS X-Jet offers highly meaningful performance metrics within a compact framework.
