Description
Despite a steady economic growth over the past decades, Laos economy has been mainly driven by large scale and capital intensive sectors such as mining and hydropower which are primarily dominant by Chinese investments. These projects bring considerable environmental costs, cause higher debts, and create less benefits to the people, including knowledge transfer and employment opportunities. The PRICE will therefore focus on enhancing potential of small and micro enterprises (SMEs) in Laos and targeting on industry, tourism, handicraft and manufacturing sectors. The PRICE aims to (1) foster Lao Business competitiveness and Responsible Investment manner, (2) build their organizational capacity and quality employment that meet international standards, and (3) advance Lao-U.S trading relationships and their access to U.S and ASEAN markets.
