The Grounds Services Contract is responsible for landscaping over 1,000 acres of facility exteriors, field laboratory sites, and the areas surrounding the airfield, ensuring employees, travelers, and visitors are safe and able to perform their duties to the best of their abilities, helping to further advance the United States National Airspace System (NAS) and support efforts to sustain its continued safe and efficient operations. Additionally, the Grounds Services Contract maintains safe and accessible conditions around critical infrastructure including, high voltage power lines, pad-mounted switches, transfer switches, and the FAA and USCG ramps, rendering them safe from vegetation, tree limbs, wildlife, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD), while also staying compliant with Federal and state environmental protection agency requirements. During the non-growing season/winter months, the Grounds Services Contractor also performs snow and ice removal on the WJHTC campus, keeping 24 miles of roads, 177k square feet of sidewalks, 1M square feet of parking lots, and over 1M square feet of the FAA ramp safe and operational for employees and visitors alike. All of these tasks performed by the Grounds Services Contractor keep the WJHTC and its tenants in a 24/7-365 state of operational readiness.
