Description
This is a proposal for the retirement of three female baboons from the White Oak Animal Program (WOAP). These animals arrived at FDA from Southwest Primate Center. Two arrived on 7/25/2019. One arrived on 2/13/2020. Multiple FDA studies were completed (2020 B. pertussis, 2021 Data Logger Surgery, 2022 B. pertussis, 2023 N. gonorrhea) with these animals. The animals are 6 years old and currently healthy. Initial attempts to transfer them to other facilities were unsuccessful. The animals were listed as available for biomedical research transfer on the NIH NHP Locator application without inquiry. The animals are socially housed in a trio together in the same enclosure. They are excellent behavioral disposition and general health. Note: The vast majority of NHPs from the WOAP are transferred for on-going use in biomedical research. Approximately 60 NHPs were transferred for biomedical research per the FDA Placement Guidelines from WOAP in 2023. The three animals in this proposal are older and larger in part because of their use on multiple studies and for study requiring sexual maturity.
