Description
LEO is seeking to recompete the LCOMMS contract to continue using the commercial terrestrial network that provides uninterrupted and reliable data transfer between antenna stations (Svalbard, Norway and McMurdo, Antarctica), and NOAA's Mission Operations Centers and data processing centers. The network allows NOAA to operate and command its satellites, and to transfer weather data received from NOAA's Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS), thus enabling near term weather prediction and public safety weather forecasts during severe weather events. Without this data, our forecast ability will diminish and reduce our nation’s ability to protect lives and property. Use of the LCOMMS contract reduced costs by over 80% relative to the prior architecture in place.
