The Abandoned Mine Site Cleanup Module (AMSCM)

Department of the Interior.Bureau of Land Management · CO

Date posted

Description

The AMSCM project directly supports key Department of the Interior priorities under Secretarial Order 3436 by improving data quality on abandoned mines and contaminated sites across BLM-managed lands.        - Accurate, up-to-date information is essential for enabling safe energy development (Priority 1), protecting public health and natural resources (Priority 4), and restoring lands for recreation and traditional uses (Priority 5).        - The project also advances conservation goals (Priority 6), strengthens community support through science and data (Priority 8), and enhances government efficiency and digital services (Priorities 10 and 11).  Without this award, the backlog of incomplete or poor-quality data will persist, directly compromising public safety.        - Thousands of hazardous mine features remain untracked or inaccurately recorded, increasing the risk of falls, drownings, or injuries at unmarked or unstable sites.        - Without timely data cleanup, BLM cannot effectively prioritize or respond to these threats. This project is critical to implementing Administration priorities (Priority 12), improving public engagement (Priority9), and ensuring BLM can manage public lands responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with national goals.
