Description
This project is being conducted per the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act (OPA). The source of NPS’ project funds is the 2016 settlement with British Petroleum for injuries to barrier island habitat caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. NPS is obligated under OPA to restore these injuries. If delayed, the natural character of the islands would continue to be compromised as would visitor experience.
