Description
The BLM is required to capture and remove excess wild horses and burros to ensure healthy animals and healthy rangelands in accordance with the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971. The BLM uses multiple contractors to humanely capture and remove excess wild horses and burros with drive trapping method. Drive trapping consists of utilizing vehicles (usually helicopter) to direct these animals into temporary corrals. The animals are then transported to temporary holding corrals where they are sorted, fed and cared for until they can be transported to more permanent BLM facilities.
