Description
Lightning surge protection is required by the NWS for COOP observers whose residence or institutional facility is equipped with the Maximum/Minimum Temperature System (MMTS) indoor Nimbus Display This protects lives and property. The L-Com, Inc P/N ALW-D2-05, unit arrests high voltage surges from lightning at the exterior of the building where the MMTS cable enters. The unit provides clampling voltage down to 7.5 -Votls and offers threee stage protection as follows; Stage 1, Differential Gas Discharge Tubes; Stage 2, Pair of current-limiting series resistors to 3.3 Ohms (very important); and Stage 3, Low capacitance diode array. The part ALW-D2-05, offers who channels with paired circuits (for failover), however only one is needed for the analog signal cable that is used wiht the MMTS thermometer (Belden Cable P/N 9802). See the SPEC Sheet from L-COM, attached to the Requirements Statement. The L-COM (infite Electronics, Irvine, C
