Description

Orangegate Park is an approximately 150-acre property that is located in the Summit-Waller community at the intersection of 84th Street East and 46th Avenue East. Pierce County acquired the property from Washington Department of Natural Resources in 1998. The property is split by the Tacoma Water Pipeline and Pipeline Trail as well as 84 th Street East. The portion of Orangegate Park south of 84 th St East is open to the public and features trailhead parking and walking/equestrian trails. The focus of this project is to develop the 40 acres north of 84 th Street East (Orangegate Park North) utilizing the documents enclosed in the bid package. The northern 40-acres is currently undeveloped forest with user created trails throughout the parcel. When complete, the northern 40-acre parcel will feature elements including but not limited to: ADA nature playground, parking, bioswales and wetland areas, off-lease dog park, park shelters, restroom/maintenance building, soft-surface hiking. Additionally, the project will include a safe pedestrian crossing of 84 th Street East and a connection through Orangegate South to the Pipeline Trail. The work of this project will require close coordination with authorities having jurisdiction as well as with Pierce County, including the Natural Lands team. See the ‘background section’ for further details on this coordination.
