Description
The King County Rural Library District dba King County Library System (KCLS) requests the submittal of a statement of qualifications for the following: Project Title . In support of the KCLS Strategic Framework ( https://kcls.org/strategy/) , specifically the goal of supporting Communities of Inclusion and Belonging, KCLS is seeking to develop an Artists Roster that is not only broad in scope and the types of artwork included, but is also reflective of the cultures and communities in which its 49+ library facilities reside. The vision for the KCLS Art Collection is to serve the community by selecting and maintaining artwork that reflects the diverse cultures, interests, and creativity of its patrons across the system. The mission includes selecting new art using approved criteria, with a focus on the interests of the local community and maintaining existing artwork to ensure its condition keeps the item accessible to patrons. This roster should reflect the breadth of experiences, cultures, histories, and perspectives that make up the region served by KCLS. In order to meet these goals, the roster will be updated every three years. Artists may live and work in King County, but this is not a requirement for the roster. However, it is desired that artists have completed projects or exhibited their work in the Northwest. KSLC will utilize this artist roster for acquisition of existing 3D and 2D (framed or unframed) artwork, as well as site-specific commission opportunities. A variety of materials are eligible, including: Painting Photography Fiber arts and textiles Limited edition prints Glass Ceramics Metal Mixed media Site-responsive installations Murals, preferably on panels for longevity Outdoor sculpture Artwork integrated into architecture Due to ongoing maintenance and conservation considerations, digital, tech-based artwork, and artwork with water is not preferred, except in unique situations. Inclusion on this roster does not guarantee artwork will be acquired. KCLS is beginning a cycle of building refreshes with one to three facilities being updated each year. KCLS is seeking artists with the ability to create engaging and unique works that harmonize with the five (5) KCLS design palettes (Attachment A) and the aesthetic nature of each unique building and space. This Artists Roster will be the pool to which KCLS will release requests for artwork to fit the size and scope of the various projects. Each project will have its own scope and budget.
