Library Chiller Replacement Project: Filed Sub-Bidders

The Town of Hingham Public Library located at 66 Leavitt Street, Hingham, MA 02042, is one of the Town’s most valued community centers and provides a variety of services to all demographics. The current building was opened in 1966 and underwent renovation and expansion in 2001. Many core components of the cooling system from the 2001 renovation (the heating system was renovated in 2016) are at the end of their useful life and are beginning to fail. Replacement parts are no longer being manufactured, which makes necessary repairs costly and difficult. Portions of the cooling system need to be replaced as soon as possible in order for the Library to provide reliable, uninterrupted capacity for the building’s daily use, as well as its critical function to the Town as a designated cooling center during the summer months. After developing a scope of work with the Town’s Engineering Department and obtaining quotes, the Library received $80,000 in Capital Funding in FY26 for engineering studies to complete a schematic narrative suitable for preliminary budget pricing, followed by construction documents suitable for final cost estimates, bidding, and construction. Estimated total contract value, $1,400,000. Bids are subject to M.G.L. c. 149 §44A-J & to minimum wage rates as required by M.G.L. c. l49 §§26 to 27H inclusive.
