Description
Marblehead Municipal Light Department (MMLD) receives its power supply via twin, 23kV feeders sourced from National Grid’s Railyard substation in Salem, Massachusetts. MMLD assumes ownership for these circuits and their associated infrastructure from National Grid near Ocean Ave in Salem, where it exists as two vertically oriented, overhead circuits in spacer cable configuration above the Salem Bike Path. From the point of demarcation, the circuits span seven, 45-foot, wooden poles before transitioning to an underground configuration to the city limits. MMLD is seeking a qualified contractor to replace the wooden utility poles and transfer the 23kV circuits in sequence to maintain power to the MMLD system. Specific materials and specifications are contained in Attachment D. Work must commence after November 9, 2026 and conclude before December 31, 2026. Work is to be performed on the Salem Bike Path between the end of Ocean Avenue and approximately 256 Canal Street, as indicated by the highlighted section of the map below.
