Traffic Signal Controllers, accessories, and Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) are a set of technologies and techniques that are used to improve the efficiency, safety, and reliability of traffic on roads and highways. ATMS is a primary subfield within the intelligent transportation system (ITS) domain. Traffic Signal Controllers and ATMS are designed to provide control, monitoring, and traveler information in an effort to reduce traffic congestion, travel time, and accidents. Its emphasis is on safety and efficiency of mobility that include mode, route, and travel time choices. The public purpose of Traffic Signal Controllers, accessories, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and technical support and updates are to improve the efficiency of the road network, reduce travel times, and improve safety.
