Description
This is a new Area of Interest (AOI) 26-A011 under the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Rapid Capabilities Cell Commercial Solutions Opening N6523626S0001. NIWC Atlantic requires a prototype capability to evaluate and demonstrate a rapidly deployable, integrated, and scalable solution for processing and visualizing polar-orbiting satellite data in extremely remote, degraded, and disconnected environments such as Antarctica. Currently, safety-of-flight planning and aviation route forecasting are impacted by regional bandwidth limitations and logistical maintenance constraints, and proprietary software outputs that impede open-standard scientific and meteorological collaboration. To close this operational capability gap, a successful prototype must validate a multi-tiered visualization architecture: a lightweight, ultra-low-bandwidth capability to deliver high-priority imagery to extremely bandwidth-constrained nodes (such as the South Pole), paired with a high-fidelity analytical capability for detailed local weather modeling and flight safety assessments. Success will be measured by the systems ability to operate reliably on limited local computing footprints, ingest raw polar-orbiting satellite data locally without relying on high-bandwidth reachback, translate data into non-proprietary open formats, and reduce the latency of delivering actionable meteorological visualization.
