Description

Purpose: To increase the supply of psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) trained to work in the local public mental health system (PMHS). The grantee(s) shall train psychiatry residents and fellows training in the Public Mental Health System (PMHS), including, but not limited to, adding PMHS psychiatry residency/fellowship slots to an existing psychiatry residency/fellowship program, recruiting residents and/or fellows who can provide care consistent with the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) vision and values, recruiting culturally diverse residents and/or fellows who can provide culturally competent care, increasing the number of hours psychiatry residents and/or fellows train in the PMHS, and providing clinical supervision that leads to Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification. Eligible Applicants: The PMHS is publicly-funded mental health programs/services and entities administered, in whole or in part, by state departments or counties. Entities may include public and/or community-based organizations (CBOs) and institutions. It does not include programs and/or services administered, in whole or in part by federal, state, county, or private correctional entities or programs, or services provided in correctional facilities. Eligible Geographies: Programs must be located in the state of California.
