Resilient Sierra Nevada Communities Directed Grant Program

Purpose: The Resilient Sierra Nevada Communities Directed Grant Program is a multi-disciplinary grant program that will provide resources for capacity building and technical support to local agencies, organizations, and tribes. These funds can be used to design, manage, and implement projects that will increase community resiliency against, and recovery from, natural disasters and ecological and economic challenges. To be considered for funding, projects must directly address the nexus among: Environmental Needs, Economic Needs, and Community Needs. This grant program will support the planning and implementation of projects that are specifically designed to confront issues that impact the environment, economy, and communities. This may include a broad array of projects, such as the protection of public infrastructure from wildfire, workforce development through the implementation of natural resource management activities or the development of community resource facilities, the implementation of climate adaptation initiatives, or wildfire recovery efforts for current and future community resiliency. Consistent with the requirements of Proposition 68 and objectives of the proposed project, all projects must either plan for or implement capital improvement projects that will benefit California citizens for no less than 30 years. The SNC may give favorable consideration to projects which: involve California Native American tribes employ a collaborative approach in project development or implementation directly benefit severely disadvantaged or disadvantaged communities leverage private, federal, or local resources enable the equitable geographic distribution of SNC resources Additionally, projects must be consistent with the SNC mission and program areas as defined in the SNC Strategic Plan, meet the requirements of Proposition 68, be consistent with recommendations of the 2018 California Forest Carbon Plan, and result in a clear, demonstrable, and enduring public benefit. Application Process: Projects must be developed in collaboration with SNC. Contact your SNC Area Representative to discuss project ideas. Applicants will submit a concept proposal, and then may be invited to develop a full proposal in collaboration with SNC. This grant program cycle will repeat every quarter through March 2022, with the first expected grant award announcement in March 2021. Eligible Applicants: Grant funds may be authorized for: Public agencies: any city, county, special district, joint powers authority, state agency, or federal agency. SNC's governing statute does not allow grants to mutual water companies. Qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Native American Tribal Entities listed on the current Federal Register or the California Native American Heritage Commission. Eligible Geographies: The Sierra Nevada region stretches from Modoc County in the north to Kern County in the south and covers 25 million acres and all or part of 22 counties. Matching Funding: While match funding is not required, it is considered in the project evaluation process.
