Increased Recycling of Empty Glass Beverage Containers Grant Program, FY 2026-27

Purpose: The fundamental goal of the Program is to assist in funding regional pilot programs that are supplying bins for collection of empty glass beverage containers from five or more restaurants and on-sale retail licensed establishments licensed pursuant to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (Division 9, commencing with Section 2300, of the Business and Professions code), with the goal of increasing the recycling of glass beverage containers. In order to facilitate increased recycling of empty glass beverage containers in the state, the department shall create the Increased Recycling of Empty Glass Beverage Containers Grant Program. The purpose of the grant program shall be to assist in funding regional pilot programs furnishing bins for collection of empty glass beverage containers from restaurants and on-sale retail licensed establishments licensed pursuant to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act. Grants provided under this program may be used for any of the following: 1. Purchase of bins for the collection of empty glass beverage containers at restaurants and other on-sale retail licensed establishments licensed pursuant to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act. 2. Collection and consolidation of contents from the bins. 3. Transportation of the empty glass beverage containers that are collected to a glass processing facility. All projects must include collection of empty glass beverage containers from five or more restaurants and on-sale retail licensed establishments licensed pursuant to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act (Division 9, commencing with Section 2300, of the Business and Professions code) throughout one or more cities or counties in the State of California. Eligible Applicants: Eligible applicants are: -Certified Recycling Centers (RC) -Certified Collection/Drop off Programs (CP) -Certified Community Service Programs (SP) -Local Government (cities, counties, or cities and counties) as defined in PRC section 30109. Applicants that seek to pay out CRV for the collected glass, must be a Certified Recycling Center, and meet the requirements of Section 2525(k) of the California Code of Regulations. Eligible Geographies: Entities must be authorized and qualified to do business in California. Additionally, they must be in good standing with all applicable California state agencies to conduct business and registered appropriately to do business according to their entity type. Matching Funding: The applicant must match the amount of any grant received from the grant program in an amount equal to or greater than the grant amount. Other funding received from CalRecycle is not eligible to be used as match for this grant program.
