Description
Purpose: Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) sections 13302-13307 authorize the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to provide grants to qualified nonprofit organizations(Grantee) to provide services to immigrants residing in, or formerly residing in, the state of California, as set forth in this Agreement. These funds shall expand services by augmenting existing funding sources available to Grantee. The funds provided for immigration services pursuant to this Agreement shall be for the sole purpose of providing: Services to provide legal consultations to individuals seeking immigration remedies; Services to assist with the application process for initial or renewal requests of deferred action under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); Services to obtain Affirmative Immigration Remedies (AIR); Services to assist with the application process for naturalization and any appeals arising from the process with USCIS; Services to provide legal training and technical assistance and educational and capacity building activities that will augment the competent provision of legal services to immigrants, including for organizations located in and serving underserved communities; Free education and outreach activities that explain eligibility for deferred action, other immigration remedies, and naturalization; that promote the benefits of deferred action, other immigration remedies and citizenship; that explain immigration-related rights; and that refer individuals to a qualified service provider.
