Description

Purpose: Provides funding for prevention plans and implementation activities that help protect California’s reservoirs from quagga and zebra (dreissenid) mussel infestation. The Quagga and Zebra Mussel Infestation Prevention Grant Program provides funding for two tiers/types of projects: 1) Planning and Assessment; and 2) Implementation. Examples of projects include: developing prevention plans, purchasing pressure washers/decontamination units or other equipment, outreach/education effort, and inspection programs including staffing, materials and supplies. DBW coordinates and collaborates with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on many aspects of this program. Eligible Applicants: The applicant must own or manage any aspect of the water in the reservoir(s). The reservoir(s) must be open to the public for recreation and be free of quagga and zebra mussels. The applicant must provide quagga and zebra mussel early-detection monitoring data no older than March of the previous year when applying. Defined under California Water Code, Division 3, Part I, Chapter I, Section 6004.5, a "reservoir" is referred to as "any reservoir which contains or will contain the water impounded by a dam.”
