Description

Purpose: The Federal PCSGP is a discretionary grant program administered by the California Department of Education, Charter Schools Division. Applications are reviewed by peer evaluators and awarded to school developers to assist in the development and initial operations of newly established/conversion charter schools, as well as assist in the expansion/replication of high-quality charter schools. The PCSGP Start-Up Sub-Grant provides funding for the planning and initial implementation of newly established or conversion charter schools, as well as the replication and expansion of high-quality charter schools. Start-Up sub-grants for planning, implementation, and replication are eligible for up to $600,000. Expansion sub-grants are eligible for up to $300,000 to charter schools that are adding new grade levels or significantly increasing enrollment. The PCSGP Start-Up Sub-Grant serves California's public charter schools by providing startup and initial operating capital to assist schools in establishing or expanding high-quality, high-performing charter school operations for California students and their families. Eligible Applicants: A newly established or conversion classroom-based charter school may be eligible for a Planning, Implementation, or Replication sub-grant, provided that the school did not begin serving students prior to July 1, 2020. A Non-classroom-based and virtual charter school may be eligible for an Expansion sub-grant, provided the school meets the definition of a high-quality charter school. Eligible Geographies: Planning, Implementation, Replication, and Expansion sub-grants have varying award amounts. Planning, Implementation, and Replication sub-grants may not exceed $600,000. Expansion sub-grants may not exceed $300,000. There may be one additional opportunity to apply for supplemental funding, of up to $100,000, to specifically serve educationally disadvantaged students.
