State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Notice to Begin Engineering and Environmental Studies/Request for Public Comments Cordova Orca Road Milepost 1-2.1 Pavement Preservation State/Federal Project Number NFHWY01176/0002(582) The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is publishing this notice to inform the public and agencies of its intent to begin environmental review of a project DOT&PF proposes to resurface Orca Road between milepost (MP) 1 and 2.1 in Cordova, Alaska. Work activities include resurfacing and restriping the road, replacing roadside hardware including signs and guardrail, drainage improvements including road and parking area grading, vegetation clearing, and utilities. Material sites for this project are expected to be contractor furnished. We are currently working on the conceptual design, engineering, and environmental studies, as well as soliciting public comments. Construction is currently expected in the 2028 summer season. DOT&PF requests information and comments on resources in the project area that may be affected including historic properties, archaeological sites, wetlands, and floodplain encroachment.
