For inquiries or to request copies of documents, contact: DEC Contact : Nick Zeigler, (907) 269-3051; Nick.Zeigler@Alaska.gov ; DEC, Div of Water, WDAP; 555 Cordova St.; Anchorage, AK 99501 Proposed Permit Coverage : General Permit 2026DB0002 - Class I UIC Well Waste Disposal (Permit) is proposed to be reissued by the DEC, Division of Water, Wastewater Discharge Authorization Program under authority of Alaska Statutes 46.03 and Alaska Administrative Code (AAC). Coverage under the Permit is available only to applicants who have also been issued a Class I UIC Well Permit by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from the UIC Program, which is authorized under Part C of the Safe Drinking Water Act. Tentative Determination : DEC has tentatively determined to reissue a waste disposal permit to provide coverage for disposal of non-hazardous domestic or non-domestic waste through deep well injection into non-drinking water aquifers that have received a groundwater exemption by EPA. Although Class I UIC wells are predominantly located on the North Slope and Cook Inlet Regions of Alaska, the Permit applies statewide. Per 18 AAC 15.050, DEC is publishing notices in newspapers with general circulation in the North Slope and Cook Inlet Regions for two consecutive days. Written comments on the Draft Permit or requests for public hearing must be submitted by the expiration date established in this public notice. Written comments may be submitted online at https://dec.alaska.gov/commish/public-comments , or sent via email to the DEC representative listed above. For any inquiries, please contact the DEC representative listed above. The permit documents can be accessed from the DEC Wastewater Discharge Authorization Program (WDAP) website ( https://dec.alaska.gov/water/wastewater/ ) under the Public Notices section. All comments should include the name, address, and telephone number of the commenter and a concise statement of comment on the permit condition(s) and the relevant facts upon which the comment is based. Comments of either support or concern that are directed at specific, cited permit requirements are appreciated. Receipt of comments electronically is preferred, but not mandatory. Mailed comments and requests must be postmarked on or before the expiration date of this public notice. DEC will consider all substantive comments when making the final decision. Those who provided timely comments during the public review will be notified of the final decision and be provided with a summary for the basis of the final decision.
