DEQ is seeking a contract with a qualified media company to conduct a statewide awareness campaign about the proper management of lithium-ion batteries at the end of their useful life. Lithium-ion batteries will be banned from landfill disposal on December 1, 2026, in accordance with G.S. 130A-309.10. The awareness campaign will include radio advertisements and digital messaging to reach all 100 counties. DEQ will use grant funds from EPA to run the campaign, which has been vetted and approved as part of DEQ’s workplan submitted to EPA.
